Blackpink has broken numerous online records throughout their career. Their music videos for “Kill This Love” (2019) and “How You Like That” (2020) each set records for the most-viewed music video within the first 24 hours of release.

The group was formed in 2017 by producer Teddy Park as a five-member unit. The name Black Pink was inspired by Black Pink’s leader YoonA’s nickname: “Pink”. In March 2018, they released their first EP titled Square Up. The EP reached number one on the Gaon Album Chart and Top Digital Albums charts in South Korea. That same year, the group won their first award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards for Best New Artist. In September 2018, they made their debut with their single Square Up and its accompanying music video “Whistle”, which became an instant success. The song topped many international charts including Billboard Hot 100 chart in America and reached number two on Gaon Digital Chart behind BTS’ album Love Yourself: Tear(

But who are Black Pink?

When Blackpink burst onto the scene in 2016, the world was in for a treat. They were an all-female K-pop group who quickly became one of the most popular acts in the industry. They had an explosive debut with their song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” which went straight to No. 1 on many charts around Asia and even made it into the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

But what does Blackpink actually do? What are their goals as a group and as individuals? We’ve got answers for you!

Black Pink is known for their unique style and makeup in their music videos. Their debut single “Whistle” was particularly popular because it featured a high school student whose parents were fighting over custody—a common theme among Korean dramas at the time. Black Pink’s second single “Nobody” also turned heads because it featured a strong feminist message against toxic masculinity through dance moves inspired by female empowerment movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp movements.

Biggest Girl Group of All Time

You may have heard of Blackpink, but if you haven’t, that’s okay! They’re a new girl group who recently debuted with “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.” They have all of the makings of a huge, global hit: the sound is unique and catchy, they’re all young and beautiful, and they’ve got a powerful backstory. But what should you know about them?

Blackpink’s story is one that will make you want to go out and buy their album immediately. The group was founded by Jisoo and Jennie who were friends at school. Jisoo was already making music on her own under the name Jennie Bae when she met up with Jennie on Instagram in 2015. They started doing covers together—and then one day Jennie tweeted at Jisoo saying she wanted to start a band together! And thus Blackpink was born.

The members were first introduced to the public through the music video for “As If It’s Your Last” (2018). Since then they have been gaining popularity in South Korea and around the world.
